BNP wants to win all seats in Rajshahi, Jamaat is also active
A year ago, BNP leaders and activists were afraid to come out in public. Most of the party leaders were in hiding due to various types of police harassment. Even if they held public processions and rallies, the police would surround them. Leaders and activists were detained from processions. There was a situation where leaders and activists could not even come to the party office. But after August 5 last year, the picture has completely changed. The party leaders and activists are much stronger; along with this, old party conflicts have also come out in the open. In this situation, the party is preparing for the elections.
BNP wants to win all seats in Rajshahi, Jamaat is also active
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami, a former partner of BNP, is also conducting organizational activities openly after many years. The party has been conducting its party activities secretly for more than a decade. After August 5 last year, the party has intensified its organizational activities. In the meantime, the party has announced potential candidates in five of the six constituencies of the district and is busy preparing the election field.
Despite the BNP-Jamaat’s active participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections, the activities of other parties are lax. The leaders of the Jatiya Nagorik Party, Gana Odhikar Parishad, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Party, Gana Sanghati Andolan, Khelafat Majlis, Rashtra Sanskand Andolan, BSD and CPB have not yet been seen in the election-oriented programs. Recently, the Jatiya Nagorik Party has formed a coordination committee for Rajshahi district and metropolis.
There are a total of 6 constituencies in the 9 upazilas and metropolis of Rajshahi district. Of these, Sadar Upazila has one, Bagmara Upazila has one and the other constituencies are made up of two upazilas each. The BNP is vigorously implementing its political program. The party has held worker conferences in various upazilas. However, after August 5, old party conflicts have started to emerge. In an attempt to establish dominance, some parties have also been involved in clashes in various upazilas. This has also resulted in loss of lives.
Amidst all this, the party’s potential election candidates are campaigning for seats on various occasions. They are going to the voters and talking about the party and themselves. This trend has increased, especially since the last Eid.
